The Thousand Names of Vibration
Professor Douglas Kahn
Over the last decade, vibrations have been turned up to 11 on the ontological dial. But I get the feeling that the publicity may exceed the performance, while the laser-vibrometer indicates a thousand other sounds and energies are being masked. From Dada and dance to Deleuze on the dance floor, this talk will introduce vibrations in the arts and theory from the early twentieth century to the present, with special attention given to a new reading of R. Murray Schafer’s The Soundscape: Our Sonic Environment and the Tuning of the World.
Jo Burzynska, audio-olfactory performance – for electronics and aromas.
Caleb Kelly, Gallery Sound (Bloomsbury Academic 2017).
Launched by Professor Greg Hainge, Professor of French, University of Queensland and co-editor of ex:centrics, Bloomsbury Academic.
