In this two-hour masterclass, sound and media artist Thomas Köner (DE) will lead a discussion of his work stemming from his Sydney performance at the 14th Audi Festival Of German Films, in which Köner will create a live soundtrack for the 1926 silent film FAUST by German cinema legend FW Murnau, at Chauvel Cinema Saturday 23rd May. This discussion and demonstration will be contextualised within a reading of Köner’s essay Media Disenchantments, published in Media Matter: The Materiality of Media, Matter as Medium, Bloomsbury, 2015.
Köner is a distinctive figure in the fields of contemporary music and multimedia art, working across the spheres of composition, visual arts, installation work and music production. For more than three decades his work has been internationally recognised and he excelled in all the areas of his artistic activity, receiving awards such as Golden Nica Ars Electronica (Linz), Transmediale Award (Berlin), Best Young Artist at ARCO (Madrid), and many more.
